Effects of sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors in addition to insulin therapy on cardiovascular risk factors in type 2 diabetes patients: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
Synthesis in Journal of diabetes investigation, 2019. The graph could read no effect estimate from its abstract, so it casts no vote on the map. Cited by 6 papers, 2 of them syntheses that pooled it.
What it found
Each row is one number read from the abstract, on the scale the paper reported it, with its interval. Left of the dashed line favours the treatment, right favours the comparator. Under each row is the sentence it came from. New to these charts? A ten-minute tutorial.
The abstract states no effect estimate the extractor could read, or names no intervention and outcome on the map, so this paper lights no cell and moves no belief. It is still indexed, cited and linked below.
The trial behind it
Trials whose registry record cites this paper, or whose number appears in the abstract. A trial that started after this paper was published is citing it as background, not reporting it.
Neither the registry nor the abstract names a trial number. If this is a trial report, that itself is worth knowing.

Abstract

introductionIn the present meta-analysis, we aimed to determine the effects of sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitor (SGLT-2i) in addition to insulin therapy on cardiovascular risk factors in type 2 diabetes patients. MATERIALS AND
methodsRandomized controlled trials were identified by searching the PubMed, Embase and Cochrane Library databases published before September 2017. The intervention group received SGLT-2i as add-on treatment to insulin therapy, and the control group received placebos in addition to insulin. We assessed pooled data, including weighted mean differences and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) using a random-effects model.
resultsA total of 10 randomized controlled trials (n = 5,159) were eligible. The weighted mean differences for systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure were -3.17 mmHg (95% CI -4.53, -1.80, I
conclusionsThe results showed that in the intervention group, greater reductions were achieved for blood pressure, glucose control, uric acid and bodyweight. This treatment regimen might therefore provide beneficial effects on the occurrence and development of cardiovascular events.
