Abstract

Increased negative immune checkpoint receptors (NCR) on T cells are linked to T cell exhaustion, dysfunctional effector responses, and HIV viral persistence. Metformin, an oral hypoglycemic agent used for diabetes, may have previously unrecognized beneficial immunologic effects.
