Synthesis in The Journal of international medical research, 2021. The graph could read no effect estimate from its abstract, so it casts no vote on the map. It is linked to trial NCT07315737 (miRNAs Associated With Undescended and Retractile Testes), which is not on this map. Cited by 4 papers.

1 · What the graph read from it

What it found

Each row is one number read from the abstract, on the scale the paper reported it, with its interval. Left of the dashed line favours the treatment, right favours the comparator. Under each row is the sentence it came from. New to these charts? A ten-minute tutorial.

The abstract states no effect estimate the extractor could read, or names no intervention and outcome on the map, so this paper lights no cell and moves no belief. It is still indexed, cited and linked below.

2 · The registry

The trial behind it

Trials whose registry record cites this paper, or whose number appears in the abstract. A trial that started after this paper was published is citing it as background, not reporting it.

Abstract

objectiveTo identify dysregulated miRNAs in testicular tissues from animal models and patients with cryptorchidism.

methodsDatabases were systematically searched for studies published before 10 May 2020 that had investigated miRNAs in cryptorchidism. Predicted targets of the identified miRNA biomarkers were obtained by searching TargetScan and Starbase. Gene ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopaedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway enrichment analyses were subsequently conducted.

resultsFive publications met the eligibility criteria for the review. 21 differentially expressed miRNAs were the most abundantly reported in 185 animal and human tissue samples. Three miRNAs (miR-210, miR-449a and miR-34c) were dysregulated in both animal and human testicular tissues. The top five relevant lncRNAs associated with the miRNAs were NEAT1, KCNQ1OT1, XIST, AC005154.1, and TUG1.

conclusionsFurther research is warranted to explore the potential of these dysregulated miRNAs as biomarkers or therapeutic targets for male infertility associated with cryptorchidism.
