1 · What the graph read from it

What it found

Each row is one number read from the abstract, on the scale the paper reported it, with its interval. Left of the dashed line favours the treatment, right favours the comparator. Under each row is the sentence it came from. New to these charts? A ten-minute tutorial.

The abstract states no effect estimate the extractor could read, or names no intervention and outcome on the map, so this paper lights no cell and moves no belief. It is still indexed, cited and linked below.

2 · The registry

The trial behind it

Trials whose registry record cites this paper, or whose number appears in the abstract. A trial that started after this paper was published is citing it as background, not reporting it.

Neither the registry nor the abstract names a trial number. If this is a trial report, that itself is worth knowing.

Abstract

backgroundInsulin resistance has been demonstrated to be involved in the pathogenesis of atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases (ASCVDs). This study evaluated the association between the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index, a novel surrogate indicator of insulin resistance, and the incidence of ASCVDs in people without ASCVDs at baseline by performing a meta-analysis.

methodsCohort studies reporting the multivariate-adjusted association between the TyG index and the incidence of ASCVDs were obtained by searching the PubMed and Embase databases. A random-effects model incorporating intra-study heterogeneity was applied to combine the results.

resultsEight cohort studies comprising 5,731,294 participants were included in this meta-analysis. The results showed that compared to those with the lowest TyG index category, participants with the highest TyG index category were independently associated with a higher risk of ASCVDs [hazard ratio (HR): 1.61, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.29-2.01, I

conclusionsA higher TyG index may be independently associated with a higher incidence of ASCVDs, CAD, and stroke in people without ASCVDs at baseline.
