Effects of heated humidification on positive airway pressure side effects in patients with obstructive sleep apnoea: a meta-analysis.
Synthesis in Sleep & breathing = Schlaf & Atmung, 2023. The graph could read no effect estimate from its abstract, so it casts no vote on the map. Not yet cited in PubMed.
What it found
Each row is one number read from the abstract, on the scale the paper reported it, with its interval. Left of the dashed line favours the treatment, right favours the comparator. Under each row is the sentence it came from. New to these charts? A ten-minute tutorial.
The abstract states no effect estimate the extractor could read, or names no intervention and outcome on the map, so this paper lights no cell and moves no belief. It is still indexed, cited and linked below.
The trial behind it
Trials whose registry record cites this paper, or whose number appears in the abstract. A trial that started after this paper was published is citing it as background, not reporting it.
Neither the registry nor the abstract names a trial number. If this is a trial report, that itself is worth knowing.

Abstract
purposeAn earlier study found that heated humidification reduced the side effects of positive airway pressure (PAP) in patients with obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA). However, other studies disagreed with this finding. Therefore, we evaluated the relationship between heated humidification and the side effects of PAP in patients with OSA.
methodsAccording to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines, six databases were searched for relevant randomised controlled trials (RCTs) performed from January 1999 to June 2021.
resultsFrom 1012 retrieved articles, we identified 9 eligible RCTs. Compared to the control group, the heated humidification group reported improvements in dry nose (pooled standardised mean difference [SMD] = - 0.70, 95% confidence interval [CI] = - 0.96 to - 0.45, I
conclusionsHeated humidification improved some PAP side effects in patients with OSA but did not increase PAP adherence. Additional large-scale multi-centre RCTs are needed to verify the long-term effects.
