1 · What the graph read from it

What it found

Each row is one number read from the abstract, on the scale the paper reported it, with its interval. Left of the dashed line favours the treatment, right favours the comparator. Under each row is the sentence it came from. New to these charts? A ten-minute tutorial.

The abstract states no effect estimate the extractor could read, or names no intervention and outcome on the map, so this paper lights no cell and moves no belief. It is still indexed, cited and linked below.

2 · The registry

The trial behind it

Trials whose registry record cites this paper, or whose number appears in the abstract. A trial that started after this paper was published is citing it as background, not reporting it.

Neither the registry nor the abstract names a trial number. If this is a trial report, that itself is worth knowing.

Abstract

Prostate cancer (PCa) is one of the most prevalent types of cancer in men worldwide; however, the main diagnostic tests available for PCa have limitations and a biopsy is required for histopathological confirmation of the disease. Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) is the main biomarker used for the early detection of PCa, but an elevated serum concentration is not cancer-specific. Therefore, there is a need for the discovery of new non-invasive biomarkers that can accurately diagnose PCa. The present study used trichloroacetic acid-induced protein precipitation and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry to profile endogenous peptides in urine samples from patients with PCa (n=33), benign prostatic hyperplasia (n=25) and healthy individuals (n=28). Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis was performed to evaluate the diagnostic performance of urinary peptides. In addition, Proteasix tool was used for
