1 · What the graph read from it

What it found

Each row is one number read from the abstract, on the scale the paper reported it, with its interval. Left of the dashed line favours the treatment, right favours the comparator. Under each row is the sentence it came from. New to these charts? A ten-minute tutorial.

The abstract states no effect estimate the extractor could read, or names no intervention and outcome on the map, so this paper lights no cell and moves no belief. It is still indexed, cited and linked below.

2 · The registry

The trial behind it

Trials whose registry record cites this paper, or whose number appears in the abstract. A trial that started after this paper was published is citing it as background, not reporting it.

Neither the registry nor the abstract names a trial number. If this is a trial report, that itself is worth knowing.

Abstract

Background: Low muscle mass/sarcopenia has been associated with poor prognosis in many diseases, but its clinical significance in pyogenic liver abscess (PLA) remains unclear. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between muscle mass and prognosis of patients with PLA. Methods: A total of 154 adult patients with PLA hospitalized at Tongji Hospital (Wuhan, Hubei, China) between October 2011 and June 2021 were included in this retrospective analysis. Muscle-fat related indicators were measured by computed tomography (CT) images at the third lumbar vertebra (L3) level. The data of patients between the sarcopenia group and non-sarcopenia group were compared. Multivariate logistic regression and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analyses were performed. Results: The skeletal muscle index (SMI) was independently associated with adverse outcomes (95% CI [0.649-0.954], Conclusions: Sarcopenia serves as an independent risk factor for poor prognosis in PLA and patients with sarcopenia may be more prone to adverse outcomes.
