1 · What the graph read from it

What it found

Each row is one number read from the abstract, on the scale the paper reported it, with its interval. Left of the dashed line favours the treatment, right favours the comparator. Under each row is the sentence it came from. New to these charts? A ten-minute tutorial.

The abstract states no effect estimate the extractor could read, or names no intervention and outcome on the map, so this paper lights no cell and moves no belief. It is still indexed, cited and linked below.

2 · The registry

The trial behind it

Trials whose registry record cites this paper, or whose number appears in the abstract. A trial that started after this paper was published is citing it as background, not reporting it.

Neither the registry nor the abstract names a trial number. If this is a trial report, that itself is worth knowing.

Abstract

purpose of reviewThis review focuses on the use of colchicine to target inflammation to prevent cardiovascular events among those at-risk for or with established coronary artery disease. RECENT

findingsColchicine is an anti-inflammatory drug that reduces cardiovascular events through its effect on the IL-1β/IL-6/CRP pathway, which promotes the progression and rupture of atherosclerotic plaques. Clinical trials have demonstrated that colchicine reduces cardiovascular events by 31% among those with chronic coronary disease, and by 23% among those with recent myocardial infarction. Its ability to dampen inflammation during an acute injury may broaden its scope of use in patients at risk for cardiovascular events after major non-cardiac surgery. Colchicine is an effective anti-inflammatory therapy in the prevention of acute coronary syndrome. Ongoing studies aim to assess when, and in whom, colchicine is most effective to prevent cardiovascular events in patients at-risk for or with established coronary artery disease.
