Article in Nutrients, 2024. The graph could read no effect estimate from its abstract, so it casts no vote on the map. It is linked to trial NCT05848544 (Efficacy of a Very Low Calories Ketogenic Diet in Obese Patients With Fibromyalgia or Symptomatic Knee Osteoarthritis), which is not on this map. 1 · What the graph read from it

What it found

Each row is one number read from the abstract, on the scale the paper reported it, with its interval. Left of the dashed line favours the treatment, right favours the comparator. Under each row is the sentence it came from. New to these charts? A ten-minute tutorial.

The abstract states no effect estimate the extractor could read, or names no intervention and outcome on the map, so this paper lights no cell and moves no belief. It is still indexed, cited and linked below.

Trials whose registry record cites this paper, or whose number appears in the abstract. A trial that started after this paper was published is citing it as background, not reporting it.

Abstract

BACKGROUND/

objectivesObesity is a major risk factor for knee osteoarthritis (OA), and weight loss is crucial for its management. This pilot study explores the effects of a Very Low-Calorie Ketogenic Diet (VLCKD) in women with obesity and symptomatic knee OA.

methodsWomen with symptomatic knee OA and obesity, defined as a body mass index (BMI) ≥ 30 kg/m

resultsTwenty participants started the study, but four discontinued the intervention, with two of these being due to adverse effects. The mean age of the 16 patients who completed the 20-week program was 57.3 ± 5.5 years, and their mean BMI was 40.0 ± 4.8 kg/m

conclusionsA 20-week VLCKD in women with obesity and knee OA significantly reduced their weight and improved their outcomes, warranting further research. This trial is registered with number NCT05848544 on ClinicalTrials.gov.
