1 · What the graph read from it

What it found

Each row is one number read from the abstract, on the scale the paper reported it, with its interval. Left of the dashed line favours the treatment, right favours the comparator. Under each row is the sentence it came from. New to these charts? A ten-minute tutorial.

The abstract states no effect estimate the extractor could read, or names no intervention and outcome on the map, so this paper lights no cell and moves no belief. It is still indexed, cited and linked below.

2 · The registry

The trial behind it

Trials whose registry record cites this paper, or whose number appears in the abstract. A trial that started after this paper was published is citing it as background, not reporting it.

Neither the registry nor the abstract names a trial number. If this is a trial report, that itself is worth knowing.

Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the characteristics of the circulating microRNA expression profiles in patients with osteoporosis. Methods: A systematic literature search was performed using the Web of Science, PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), VIP, and WANFANG databases from inception until 1 March 2024. The search strategy employed keywords, encompassing "osteoporosis", "bone loss", or "osteopenia" and "miRNA" or "microRNA". The Newcastle-Ottawa Scale (NOS) quality assessment scale was used to evaluate the methodological quality. Heterogeneity tests and statistical analyses of all data were performed by Stata 16.0. The differences in microRNA levels between groups were illustrated by the weighted mean difference (WMD) and 95% confidence interval (95% CI). Results: A total of 27 studies were included and analyzed in the meta-analysis, with 2,263 participants. The results showed that Conclusion: Systematic review registration: https://www.crd.york.ac.uk/PROSPERO/
