1 · What the graph read from it

What it found

Each row is one number read from the abstract, on the scale the paper reported it, with its interval. Left of the dashed line favours the treatment, right favours the comparator. Under each row is the sentence it came from. New to these charts? A ten-minute tutorial.

The abstract states no effect estimate the extractor could read, or names no intervention and outcome on the map, so this paper lights no cell and moves no belief. It is still indexed, cited and linked below.

2 · The registry

The trial behind it

Trials whose registry record cites this paper, or whose number appears in the abstract. A trial that started after this paper was published is citing it as background, not reporting it.

Neither the registry nor the abstract names a trial number. If this is a trial report, that itself is worth knowing.

Abstract

Objective: To investigate the longitudinal changes in left ventricular (LV) structure and function after bariatric surgery in obese individuals and their relationship with preoperative left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) by cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging. Methods: We prospectively enrolled 75 obese subjects scheduled for laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy and 46 age and sex-matched healthy controls (the control group). All subjects underwent CMR examination to obtain LV structural parameters, LVEF, and strain parameters. According to their preoperative LVEF, the obese subjects were divided into two obesity groups, including the group of patients with LVEF≥60% ( Results: Before bariatric surgery, the global longitudinal strain was significantly lower in the LVEF≥60% group than that in the control group ([-18.36±1.86]% vs. [-19.50±1.53]%, Conclusion: LV remodeling is reversed after bariatric surgery in obese subjects, and the longitudinal changes in LV structure and function vary with the preoperative LVEF.
