1 · What the graph read from it

What it found

Each row is one number read from the abstract, on the scale the paper reported it, with its interval. Left of the dashed line favours the treatment, right favours the comparator. Under each row is the sentence it came from. New to these charts? A ten-minute tutorial.

The abstract states no effect estimate the extractor could read, or names no intervention and outcome on the map, so this paper lights no cell and moves no belief. It is still indexed, cited and linked below.

2 · The registry

The trial behind it

Trials whose registry record cites this paper, or whose number appears in the abstract. A trial that started after this paper was published is citing it as background, not reporting it.

Neither the registry nor the abstract names a trial number. If this is a trial report, that itself is worth knowing.

Abstract

backgroundNasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is associated with lymphocyte infiltration; however, the majority of research on NPC has focused on the role of T cells, with relatively little known about the roles of B cells and their subtypes. Therefore, we evaluated the prognostic value of CD20 + B cell density and B-cell subtypes along with their functional enrichment and hub genes in NPC.

methodsThe prognostic value of CD20 + B-cell density for distant metastasis-free survival (DMFS), overall survival (OS), and progression-free survival (PFS) was explored by immunohistochemistry using multivariate analysis. Transcriptomic expression data from Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) datasets were analyzed to identify B-cell subtypes and their functional enrichment in NPC tissues. Pseudotime trajectory analysis was performed to evaluate the B-cell differentiation trajectory and hub genes were identified using Cytoscape software.

resultsPatients with NPC exhibiting a high infiltrating density of CD20

conclusionA high infiltrating density of B cells showed strong prognostic value in patients with NPC. Naïve B cells may play an important role in tumor immunity for NPC.
