1 · What the graph read from it

What it found

Each row is one number read from the abstract, on the scale the paper reported it, with its interval. Left of the dashed line favours the treatment, right favours the comparator. Under each row is the sentence it came from. New to these charts? A ten-minute tutorial.

The abstract states no effect estimate the extractor could read, or names no intervention and outcome on the map, so this paper lights no cell and moves no belief. It is still indexed, cited and linked below.

2 · The registry

The trial behind it

Trials whose registry record cites this paper, or whose number appears in the abstract. A trial that started after this paper was published is citing it as background, not reporting it.

Neither the registry nor the abstract names a trial number. If this is a trial report, that itself is worth knowing.

Abstract

Background and purpose: Many new compounds are being prepared to overcome the problem of increasing microbial resistance and the increasing number of infections. Experimental approach: This study includes a series of twenty-seven mono-, di- and trisubstituted 2-hydroxynaphthalene-1-carboxanilides designed as multitarget agents. The compounds are substituted with methoxy, methyl, and nitro groups, as well as additionally with chlorine, bromine, and trifluoromethyl at various positions. All the compounds were evaluated for antibacterial activities against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and mycobacteria. Cytotoxicity on human cells was also tested. Key results: Three compounds showed activity comparable to clinically used drugs. Conclusion: Compounds with trifluoromethyl in the
