1 · What the graph read from it

What it found

Each row is one number read from the abstract, on the scale the paper reported it, with its interval. Left of the dashed line favours the treatment, right favours the comparator. Under each row is the sentence it came from. New to these charts? A ten-minute tutorial.

The abstract states no effect estimate the extractor could read, or names no intervention and outcome on the map, so this paper lights no cell and moves no belief. It is still indexed, cited and linked below.

2 · The registry

The trial behind it

Trials whose registry record cites this paper, or whose number appears in the abstract. A trial that started after this paper was published is citing it as background, not reporting it.

Neither the registry nor the abstract names a trial number. If this is a trial report, that itself is worth knowing.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the impact of long-term survival on cardiac serum biomarkers such as natriuretic peptides (mid-regional pro-atrial natriuretic peptide [MR-proANP], B-type natriuretic peptide [BNP], N-terminal prohormone BNP [NT-proBNP]), soluble ST2 (sST2), galectin-3 and mid-regional pro-adrenomedullin (MR-proAMD). Consecutive patients hospitalized in a tertiary center, undergoing echocardiographic and invasive left cardiac catheterization for diastolic dysfunction assessment were prospectively included in this study. Cardiac biomarkers were determined from pre-procedural peripheral venous blood samples. A total of 110 patients were included, with a median follow-up of 1.66 (1.23-2.16) years during which 16 (14.5%) patients died. A total of 45.4% (50) of patients had diastolic dysfunction. In the univariate Cox regression, long-term survival was predicted by BNP (
