1 · What the graph read from it

What it found

Each row is one number read from the abstract, on the scale the paper reported it, with its interval. Left of the dashed line favours the treatment, right favours the comparator. Under each row is the sentence it came from. New to these charts? A ten-minute tutorial.

The abstract states no effect estimate the extractor could read, or names no intervention and outcome on the map, so this paper lights no cell and moves no belief. It is still indexed, cited and linked below.

2 · The registry

The trial behind it

Trials whose registry record cites this paper, or whose number appears in the abstract. A trial that started after this paper was published is citing it as background, not reporting it.

Neither the registry nor the abstract names a trial number. If this is a trial report, that itself is worth knowing.

Abstract

Introduction: Stainless steel crowns (SSCs) are commonly utilized in pediatric dentistry for restoring primary teeth affected by extensive decay or trauma, valued for their durability and cost-effectiveness. However, their performance may degrade over time due to wear, marginal discrepancies, and environmental factors, potentially leading to secondary caries and compromised retention. This study investigates the compressive strength, volumetric changes, morphological characteristics, and marginal integrity of SSCs extracted after 1 year and >3 years using nano-computed tomography (Nano-CT). Aim: To evaluate and compare the compressive strength, volumetric changes, morphological characteristics, and marginal integrity of SSCs extracted after 1 year and >3 years. Materials and methods: The study included 50 SSCs divided into two groups: group I (crowns extracted within 1 year) and group II (crowns extracted after >3 years). High-resolution, three-dimensional (3D) nano-CT imaging was used to analyze volumetric and morphological changes, while compressive strength was assessed using a universal testing machine (UTM). Statistical comparisons, including paired Results: SSCs extracted after 3 years showed significant morphological changes, including increased surface roughness and larger marginal gaps, compared to those extracted within 1 year. These changes were linked to extended exposure to occlusal forces and environmental conditions. Crowns extracted within 1 year demonstrated better compressive strength and marginal fit, highlighting their superior short-term performance. Nano-CT imaging revealed notable differences in surface-to-volume ratios, polar moment of inertia, and other morphological parameters between the two groups. Conclusion: This study indicates that SSCs experience notable morphological and volumetric changes over time, which can affect their clinical performance and durability. Regular monitoring and maintenance of SSCs are crucial for ensuring their long-term success in pediatric patients. Furthermore, the application of advanced imaging techniques like nano-CT provides valuable insights into the integrity and longevity of dental restorations, helping to refine clinical practices and improve outcomes in pediatric dentistry.
