1 · What the graph read from it

What it found

Each row is one number read from the abstract, on the scale the paper reported it, with its interval. Left of the dashed line favours the treatment, right favours the comparator. Under each row is the sentence it came from. New to these charts? A ten-minute tutorial.

The abstract states no effect estimate the extractor could read, or names no intervention and outcome on the map, so this paper lights no cell and moves no belief. It is still indexed, cited and linked below.

2 · The registry

The trial behind it

Trials whose registry record cites this paper, or whose number appears in the abstract. A trial that started after this paper was published is citing it as background, not reporting it.

Neither the registry nor the abstract names a trial number. If this is a trial report, that itself is worth knowing.

Abstract

Damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs)-induced sterile inflammation is considered as a typical feature of acute kidney injury (AKI). Plasma membrane rupture in renal tubular epithelial cells (RTECs) is the major cause of DAMP release and nerve injury-induced protein 1 (NINJ1) has recently emerged as an executor of plasma membrane rupture, while its role in AKI pathophysiology remains largely unknown. Here, we show upregulated NINJ1 expression and oligomerization in renal tubules among human biopsies and mouse models as well as in cultured RTECs after AKI, accompanied by plasma membrane rupture, increased DAMP release and inflammatory response. Furthermore, knockdown of NINJ1 or inhibition of its oligomerization effectively prevents plasma membrane rupture in RTECs, thereby alleviating DAMP-induced inflammatory response and renal tubular injury. Mechanistically, the ETS transcription factor (ELK1) is identified as a novel transcription factor for NINJ1 during AKI, especially ELK1 phosphorylation at Ser
