Cryptotanshinone targets the bacterial membrane and inhibits methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus.
Article in AMB Express, 2025. The graph could read no effect estimate from its abstract, so it casts no vote on the map. Cited by 1 paper.
What it found
Each row is one number read from the abstract, on the scale the paper reported it, with its interval. Left of the dashed line favours the treatment, right favours the comparator. Under each row is the sentence it came from. New to these charts? A ten-minute tutorial.
The abstract states no effect estimate the extractor could read, or names no intervention and outcome on the map, so this paper lights no cell and moves no belief. It is still indexed, cited and linked below.
The trial behind it
Trials whose registry record cites this paper, or whose number appears in the abstract. A trial that started after this paper was published is citing it as background, not reporting it.
Neither the registry nor the abstract names a trial number. If this is a trial report, that itself is worth knowing.

Abstract
The widespread emergence of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) has become a major public health concern worldwide, highlighting the urgent need for innovative antimicrobial agents with specific efficacy against MRSA. In this study, cryptotanshinone effectively inhibited the growth of S. aureus strains, including ATCC 29,213, USA 300, and ATCC 43,300. Increasing levels of reactive oxygen species induced oxidative stress, changed membrane potential, increased membrane permeability, and dramatically decreased intracellular adenosine triphosphate (ATP) levels. In addition, cryptotanshinone showed little toxic effect on cell lines and was not significantly hemolytic at 10–200 µM. In a mouse model of MRSA skin infection, cryptotanshinone substantially lowered bacterial counts and lessened tissue injury. The histopathological examination revealed that the cryptotanshinone-treated group showed less damage than the vehicle group, which indicates milder necrosis and inflammatory cell infiltration. Collectively, these findings suggest that cryptotanshinone exhibits notable anti-MRSA activity with a favourable safety profile, warranting further investigation.
