Abstract
purposeThis study aimed to explore the association between triglyceride-glucose (TyG)- related obesity indices, sleep patterns, and phenotypic age.
methodsThis study examined three TyG-related obesity indices, namely, TyG-WC (waist circumference), TyG-WHtR (waist-to-height ratio), and TyG-BMI (body mass index). Sleep patterns are categorized as healthy or poor. Weighted linear regression was employed to examine the relationship between TyG-related obesity indices, sleep patterns, and phenotypic age acceleration (PhenoAgeAccel). The XGBoost model was used to assess the relative importance of variables affecting accelerated aging. Nonlinear associations were explored using generalized additive models (GAM) or weighted restricted cubic splines (RCS). Stratified analyses by sleep patterns assessed their potential modification of the relationship between TyG-related obesity indices and PhenoAgeAccel.
resultsAll TyG-related obesity indices were associated with PhenoAgeAccel (all P<0.05). GAM revealed an inverse L-shaped relationship between TyG-related obesity indices and accelerated aging. XGBoost modeling indicated that TyG-WC contributed more to accelerated aging than TyG-BMI and TyG-WHtR. Weighted RCS analysis showed a U-shaped relationship between sleep duration and accelerated aging (P for nonlinear <0.001). We also observed that TyG-related obesity indices showed stronger effects on accelerated aging in the poor sleep pattern group (β range: 0.03- 1.55) and that the effects decreased in the healthy sleep pattern group (β range: 0.02 - 1.30).
conclusionHigher TyG-related obesity indices were linked to increased risk of accelerated aging. Sleep patterns may modify the relationship between TyG-related obesity indices and accelerated aging.
