Abstract

Diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) are a major complication of diabetes, affecting 19-34% of diabetic patients in their lifetime. Decreased angiogenesis, altered extracellular matrix (ECM) remodeling, and chronic inflammation underlie the pathophysiology of nonhealing DFU. Further, MAPK13, which regulates matrix remodeling and promotes inflammation, CXCR2, an IL-8 receptor that drives inflammation, and thrombospondin-1 (TSP-1), which inhibits angiogenesis, play a role in wound healing, but the effect of hyperglycemia on the expression of these mediators during wound healing is not well understood. This study aims to investigate the effects of hyperglycemia on the expression of MAPK13, CXCR2, and TSP-1.
