1 · What the graph read from it

What it found

Each row is one number read from the abstract, on the scale the paper reported it, with its interval. Left of the dashed line favours the treatment, right favours the comparator. Under each row is the sentence it came from. New to these charts? A ten-minute tutorial.

The abstract states no effect estimate the extractor could read, or names no intervention and outcome on the map, so this paper lights no cell and moves no belief. It is still indexed, cited and linked below.

2 · The registry

The trial behind it

Trials whose registry record cites this paper, or whose number appears in the abstract. A trial that started after this paper was published is citing it as background, not reporting it.

Neither the registry nor the abstract names a trial number. If this is a trial report, that itself is worth knowing.

Abstract

Orthodontic treatment often lasts around 20 months, and prolonged duration increases the risk of adverse events. Physical adjunctive interventions (PAIs) are proposed to accelerate tooth movement, but their efficacy remains uncertain. This umbrella review synthesized systematic reviews and meta-analyses of randomized clinical trials (RCTs) on PAIs published through March 2025 (PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, Cochrane Library). Review quality was appraised with the A Measurement Tool to Assess Systematic Reviews-2 (AMSTAR-2) and the Risk of Bias in Systematic Reviews (ROBIS) tools. Study overlap was quantified using the corrected Graphical Representation of Overlap for Overviews (GROOVE) method. Risk of bias in the primary studies was reassessed, when required, using the Cochrane Risk of Bias 2 (RoB 2) tool. Certainty of evidence was rated with the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) approach. Random-effects models were used when statistical heterogeneity was substantial (
