Bibliometric analysis reveals the current status and future trends of cancer associated photodynamic therapy in breast cancer.
Article in Discover oncology, 2026. The graph could read no effect estimate from its abstract, so it casts no vote on the map. Not yet cited in PubMed.
What it found
Each row is one number read from the abstract, on the scale the paper reported it, with its interval. Left of the dashed line favours the treatment, right favours the comparator. Under each row is the sentence it came from. New to these charts? A ten-minute tutorial.
The abstract states no effect estimate the extractor could read, or names no intervention and outcome on the map, so this paper lights no cell and moves no belief. It is still indexed, cited and linked below.
The trial behind it
Trials whose registry record cites this paper, or whose number appears in the abstract. A trial that started after this paper was published is citing it as background, not reporting it.
Neither the registry nor the abstract names a trial number. If this is a trial report, that itself is worth knowing.

Abstract
backgroundPhotodynamic therapy (PDT) has emerged as a promising minimally invasive strategy for breast cancer, leveraging photosensitizing agents, light activation, and oxygen to generate cytotoxic effects. This bibliometric analysis explores the knowledge structure, evolutionary trends, and research frontiers within the PDT domain for breast cancer from 2000 to 2025.
methodsData were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection and PubMed (2000–2025). A total of 3,785 publications were analyzed using Bibliometrix, VOSviewer, and CiteSpace for co-authorship, co-citation, keyword co-occurrence, and burst detection analyses.
resultsAnnual publications grew markedly, peaking in 2025. China led in productivity and citations, while the Chinese Academy of Sciences showed the highest betweenness centrality. Biomaterials was the most influential journal, and author collaboration networks revealed limited connectivity among core researchers. Keyword evolution identified three phases: basic exploration (2000–2017), technical development (2013–2021), and the current precision immunomodulation era (2020–present), with “tumor microenvironment” and “immunogenic cell death” as dominant contemporary themes.
conclusionThis study delineates the intellectual landscape and shifting paradigms in breast cancer PDT research, underscoring a transition toward immune-focused and tumor-microenvironment–modulating strategies. Future efforts should prioritize interdisciplinary collaboration and PDT–immunotherapy combinations to advance clinical translation.
