Abstract
Obesity treatments, including surgical, endoscopic, and pharmacological therapies, are increasingly used worldwide and are associated with a wide spectrum of potential complications that may present in the emergency department. Prompt recognition of these complications is critical, as delayed diagnosis can result in significant morbidity and mortality. Radiologists play a pivotal role in the early detection and characterization of both acute and chronic complications using appropriate imaging modalities. CT is the cornerstone imaging modality in the emergency setting, allowing comprehensive evaluation of postoperative anatomy and rapid identification of complications such as anastomotic leaks, bowel obstruction, internal hernias, ischemia, and hemorrhage. Additional imaging techniques, including fluoroscopy and targeted use of oral contrast, may be helpful in selected clinical scenarios. This pictorial essay reviews the emergency imaging findings of complications related to non-surgical and surgical obesity treatments, emphasizing key radiologic features, common diagnostic pitfalls, and a symptom-oriented imaging approach. The goal is to provide a practical, imaging-based framework to support accurate diagnosis and timely management in the emergency setting.
