Erythropoietin (EPO) administration stimulates haematological and non-haematological adaptations that alter substrate oxidation and enhance aerobic performance. The effects of strenuous exercise and EPO on metabolites, and whether any effect is associated with haematological and non-haematological adaptations, has not been assessed.
