Abstract

Background: The optimal treatment strategy for proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) remains an area of active investigation. This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of ranibizumab monotherapy vs. ranibizumab combined with panretinal photocoagulation (PRP) on neovascularization regression in PDR. Methods: This retrospective study analyzed 238 patients with PDR treated between January 2019 and December 2023. Patients were classified into a monotherapy group ( Results: At 24 months, the proportion of patients with residual neovascularization on the disc (NVD) was significantly lower in the combined PRP group (8.85%) than in the monotherapy group (23.20%, Conclusion: For PDR, ranibizumab combined with PRP was associated with greater NVD regression, reduced treatment burden, and a lower risk of sight-threatening complications compared with ranibizumab monotherapy, while visual and anatomical outcomes were comparable between the two groups.
