1 · What the graph read from it

What it found

Each row is one number read from the abstract, on the scale the paper reported it, with its interval. Left of the dashed line favours the treatment, right favours the comparator. Under each row is the sentence it came from. New to these charts? A ten-minute tutorial.

The abstract states no effect estimate the extractor could read, or names no intervention and outcome on the map, so this paper lights no cell and moves no belief. It is still indexed, cited and linked below.

2 · The registry

The trial behind it

Trials whose registry record cites this paper, or whose number appears in the abstract. A trial that started after this paper was published is citing it as background, not reporting it.

Neither the registry nor the abstract names a trial number. If this is a trial report, that itself is worth knowing.

Abstract

introductionThis study evaluated the psychometric properties of the Farsi version of the Saint Louis University Mental Status (SLUMS) examination, marking the first such investigation.

methodsThe sample comprised 200 participants: 75 with normal cognition, 74 with mild cognitive impairment (MCI), and 51 with dementia. Concurrent validity was assessed using the MMSE and NUCOG; divergent validity employed the GDS-15.

resultsExploratory factor analysis showed a unidimensional structure. Internal consistency (Cronbach's α = 0.719) and test-retest reliability (intraclass correlation coefficient = 0.717) were satisfactory. SLUMS correlated highly with MMSE (r = 0.787) and NUCOG (r = 0.861), but moderately with GDS-15 (r = -0.376). It effectively discriminated dementia from MCI but showed limited ability to differentiate normal cognition from MCI.

conclusionThe Farsi SLUMS is a suitable screening tool for detecting dementia, though caution is advised when distinguishing MCI from normal cognition.
