1 · What the graph read from it

What it found

Each row is one number read from the abstract, on the scale the paper reported it, with its interval. Left of the dashed line favours the treatment, right favours the comparator. Under each row is the sentence it came from. New to these charts? A ten-minute tutorial.

The abstract states no effect estimate the extractor could read, or names no intervention and outcome on the map, so this paper lights no cell and moves no belief. It is still indexed, cited and linked below.

2 · The registry

The trial behind it

Trials whose registry record cites this paper, or whose number appears in the abstract. A trial that started after this paper was published is citing it as background, not reporting it.

Neither the registry nor the abstract names a trial number. If this is a trial report, that itself is worth knowing.

Abstract

Although temporal information is ubiquitous in natural vision, the cortex shows strong intrinsic rhythmicity. Recent electroencephalogram (EEG) studies have revealed a component of the visual impulse response function (IRF) resembling a narrow alpha-band (7-13 Hz) filter with a slow decay (the "perceptual echo"), but so far this has not been investigated at the cellular level. Here, we characterize responses in marmoset V1 to broadband visual flicker. The stimulus-locked dynamics were characterized by a non-oscillatory IRF and dominated by low frequencies. Spiking activity was coupled to the stimulus in a temporally sparse steady state, with individual units showing expected temporal frequency tuning. These dynamics can be explained by an established thalamocortical network model. We further show that under reduced damping the model reproduces the oscillatory dynamics observed in the awake human IRF. Our findings newly suggest a role for thalamocortical alpha resonance in the generation of the perceptual echoes.
