Sustainable iodine contrast media for a healthy future (SUSTAINED): a global survey of practice.
Article in Insights into imaging, 2026. The graph could read no effect estimate from its abstract, so it casts no vote on the map. Not yet cited in PubMed.
What it found
Each row is one number read from the abstract, on the scale the paper reported it, with its interval. Left of the dashed line favours the treatment, right favours the comparator. Under each row is the sentence it came from. New to these charts? A ten-minute tutorial.
The abstract states no effect estimate the extractor could read, or names no intervention and outcome on the map, so this paper lights no cell and moves no belief. It is still indexed, cited and linked below.
The trial behind it
Trials whose registry record cites this paper, or whose number appears in the abstract. A trial that started after this paper was published is citing it as background, not reporting it.
Neither the registry nor the abstract names a trial number. If this is a trial report, that itself is worth knowing.

Abstract
objectivesTo investigate healthcare professionals' knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAPs) of the environmental impact and sustainability of iodinated contrast media (ICM). MATERIALS AND
methodsA cross-sectional web-based survey was distributed to members of professional societies and advertised via social media between June and December 2024. The questionnaire covered themes including sustainability attitudes, reduction strategies, waste management, patient awareness, and institutional policies. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics, chi-square tests, and analysis of variance (ANOVA).
results231 respondents from 44 countries completed the survey, primarily diagnostic radiographers (59%) and radiologists (38%). Most respondents (60%) reported that their institutions had sustainable ICM policies, and there was a significant association between institutional size and alignment with sustainability goals
conclusionsThis survey highlights widespread professional awareness of ICM sustainability issues but reveals variability in institutional practices, limited patient awareness, and inconsistent waste management. Findings emphasise the importance of stronger institutional policies, targeted education, and international collaboration to promote sustainable ICM use. KEY POINTS: Question How do healthcare professionals perceive and implement sustainable practices in the use of iodinated contrast media (ICM) within clinical practice? Findings While many institutions endorse sustainability, notable gaps exist in waste management, patient and practitioner education, and consistency of reduction strategies. Critical relevance statement Strengthening institutional frameworks and professional and patient engagement can enhance sustainable ICM use, safeguard resources, and mitigate environmental impact.
